It may be too late for these guys featured here: [link] but Tim and I are have started a blog to show off and hopefully find homes for animals at the Irving animal shelter. We're just featuring a few at a time, and will try and add one a day at least. Today's pets-in-waiting are Harlan and Tootie. We absolutely adore them both.
It's been a pretty emotional experience volunteering at a "kill shelter" and yes, I've broken down in tears several times over animals that had to be euthanized to make room for more lost and discarded dogs and cats. There really should be mandatory testing and training for anyone wanting kids or pets. I can't tell you how often people bring in animals because they "just don't want 'em anymore," yet dogs from abusive homes still want desperately to stay by their masters' side no matter how bad it is. Breaks my heart just thinking about it.
