Those of you watching both this and my account, I apologize for the double deviationing.

In this totally self-indulgent piece, I toyed with the idea of Vanity, Self-Love, Conceit, etc. as this uses two images of myself. It's a pretty silly notion, but since I had two images that seemed to go so well together, I thought, 'Why not?"

Other ideas began to form as the piece took shape: Mary visited by the angel (yeah, so Gabriel was male. It's art, m'kay?) I thought this could also be an image of death or of dreaming, when the soul takes flight for a night or forever.

In the end, I'm leaving it up to you to decide. I hope you find it peaceful and serene, not at all dark or imposing. I had fun doing it, and since I am still using Tim's PC, I am without my precious stock archives and PS brushes. (I don't want to junk up his compy by uploading a bunch of stuff.)

I don't know if it has been said yet, but the first thing I thought of was "letting go." Letting go of one's past, pain, inhibitions, and the like. Very beautiful piece, both the model & its artisticness (that may not actually be a word ^^' ) :)

Thank you very much! That is definitely a good interpretation as well. And I think "artisticness" is a perfectly useable word.

This is very cool. Perfect on the transparency.

This is right up my alley since most of my manipping has to do with making invisible or ethereal women.

Great job!

Do you have the two pieces that made this separate? It would be cool to do this same piece but in a different way, maybe play with displacement mapping and whatnot ;P

How did you get the fade effect? I've never been able to really get it right, and you nailed it... how?

*instant fave!*

Well... if I recall right, I just faded it down to the transparency I wanted, then tweaked the color levels and added an inner and outer glow. But it was just lots of fiddling around back and forth, honest!

How very beautiful .. both the pic and your comments to it. Mary visited by the angel .. or death or dreams, or something so private it was never meant to leave our heads, yet its so sweet...

:fav:

What I cant believe is how you managed to combine so perfectly the two photos.. how the other self's touch is so light, but still present.. Its so easy to go wrong, with something like this, and you didnt, not in the slightest way ..

I seem to be stuck in your gallery... lol

About this. I absolutely love it. Beautiful work. And the fact that you did it without what I would assume is a ton of brushes (it's an addiction... I swear it's an addiction...) makes it even more powerful. I was struck even in thumbnail by the positioning of the pair. So easily interpreted so many ways. And it's quite possible that it's Gabriel, after all, they weren't gendered. They defied genderfication (is that a word?). If you get a chance, take a look at the movie Constantine. Gabriel is one of the angels portrayed in it and I think it's one of the absolute best cases of androgeny I think I've ever seen created. Tilda Swinton really poured her heart into this one and with a little digital help, they produced something that looks hauntingly similar to the ghost figure in your art.

Couldn't really tell that they were the same person. But, I do really like the idea. The first impression I got was a deceased lover saying goodbye to his beloved. It's poetic, sad and beautiful at the same time. I may have to +fav this one!
