President Obama asked me to do this.

NEW CSS LAYOUT AND ART BY ELANDRIA

NEWS!

My president has asked me (and every other American) to donate time to community work.  Volunteering.  So I'm registering on VolunteerMatch.org to give time and energy to causes that matter to me.  The awesome thing about volunteering is that you can choose whatever it is that you feel strongly about.  Me?  It's going to be animal shelters.  Cleaning cages, playing with animals, maybe even taking really great photos of them for the animal rescue website!  (The photos on most sites look like doggie Gitmos.)  My first gig is going to be taking care of the cats that are kept at the PetSmart across the street from my workplace.  My other gig will be at the Irving Animal Shelter working with both dogs and cats.  The IAS is a kill shelter so it's especially important to me to make these animals as friendly and adoptable as possible.  Luckily, they have a very high rate of adoptions.  In the three days since Tim and I started going there, we've seen at least 8 dogs getting adopted.

So, what do you want to do?  Senior centers, nature parks, soup kitchens, highway cleanup, so many places to do your patriotic duty! :D

Good for you! I hear working in animal shelters can be hard work emotionally; you see a lot of heart break. It takes a special person to do it.
I never have worked in a shelter, but I work with an organization that rescues Australian Shepards and find them homes. My part is fostering them until they can be adopted.
Oh yeah, I also give blood to the Red Cross a few times a year. That type of volunteering is easy.

I thought about fostering too. My biggest worry is annoying the neighbors with barky dogs. Also, I'd want to get rid of our carpeting and install wood laminate flooring.

I completely understand the carpet issue. We have hardwood floors in some rooms, carpet in the rest. Keeping dogs from messing on the carpets can be a challenge.
If you want to see, I have pictures of some of my foster dogs here: [link]

I would also like to point out that you are included in those muses and spirits that I speak of in my statement in my journal and the piece I did for the Respect the Model event that is going on. [link] and you are directly responsible to a great degree for the male nudes recently submitted to my gallery. :)

I'm going to rant... not at you, but about the Read as Written thing. I'm not making you responsible for it or anything :) And I do appreciate you sharing something you thought was cool, keep doing that :)

It sounds like a really interesting concept... but their website turns me off bigtime. Sounds silly, but I looked at the company who created the site (the company who Claudette works for) and was astonished to see that they claim web design & graphic art as part of their stable of skills-for-hire... that immediately turned me off considering paying $15 a month to watch the ghost writing process, because if their web design & graphic art is any indication of what they consider marketable skills, I cringe at the thought of what the ghost writers skills might be like and cannot imagine it's worth $15 a month.

I know that probably sounds really awful of me, but care in presentation means a lot to me especially when people are asking for money. It shows they value what their trying to sell... now if the website had been built by the ghost writer or something, then I'd be more forgiving because not everyone is good at that stuff, but for it to have been built by a company who claim that it's something they'd charge for... that's poor. I mean, my goodness, look at the horribly pixelly quill. A real graphic designer would be ashamed of that lump!

Sorry for ranting, it just really bothered me >.< Perhaps I should email them lol I just woke up so I don't know what I'm doing :)

Our web design team didn't design the front page. Just the Members area.

Unfortunately.

The Author insisted on doing that.

We'll be reworking it soon. However, we agree. :p The front page is terrible. A Wordpress theme will soon replace it, which will neatly end-run the Author's design concept by arguing for functionality.

Ever try to deal with a non-writing Author? Not all that easy to do.

I was thinking about shooting you guys an email about it because it seemed a pity considering how novel (ha ha) the concept is :) thanks so much for replying. I completely understand working with a client who likes to be "involved"... isn't it delightful? I do project management for a software design company, and I have exactly the same problem. If I have to politely explain one more time that a software system is different from a paper filing system I will scream.

I'll be looking forward to checking the site out soon, As an idea, perhaps you could do a trial access or demo access to get an idea of what you actually get alongside your monthly sub, it's such a new idea it's kind of hard to imagine what it must be like!

Good luck with it! I'll pass out the word myself as well.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!

I'm the back-end coder of the group, and it was even killing me. :slamhead: I don't know why the author was so in love with that design...

We've replaced with a wordpress theme. I actually need to thank you - being able to easily show that a third-party thought the same thing we did made convincing and transition easier.

I'm the head designer here. I cringed whenever I loaded the page. I owe you such a huge cookie!!

I'm glad I was able to accidentally help :) It looks much better now, a pro job that you wouldn't hesitate subscribing to.

I do a little web-design with my partner and we run into that problem of people getting stuck on these horrible "geocities" designs and not being able to ask themselves the question of "would I pay for this?".

I'll probably sign up for it next month at payday, it does look like a useful experience to watch!

Haha, I actually hadn't looked at the site before so when I went today I was like "What's the problem with it? Looks great to me..." I kinda wish I'd seen the oogly version, just for giggles.

You know, it was one of those things that would probably only bother people who do web-design & graphic design hehe spinning low resolution graphics and such-like :)
