NEW CSS LAYOUT AND ART BY ELANDRIA

NEWS!

It had been a particularly bad week at the shelter.  One by one, dogs were falling ill or else simply running out of time as the spaces filled up, and so many of our little pals were being put to sleep.  Buster was the last of the "oldies" who'd been there the longest.  We loved him but knew that there were and always would be dogs we loved but we certainly couldn't save them all.  However, he just seemed like the right dog for us.  The right personality.  And, with the week as horrible as it had been, maybe this was our last chance to pull something good out of it all:

Buster's Last Stand

That was yesterday.  After he and Rufus hashed out who was going to be alpha (Rufus, apparently) it's like a final puzzle piece of my life has suddenly clicked into place and I haven't stopped smiling.  I think I even fell asleep smiling, one dog on the floor beside me, the other one curled up by my feet on the futon.  The cats even seem more relaxed now that Rufus has someone his own speed and species to roughhouse with.  Even though this will make things tight, financially, I have to say I have a strange contentment now that I really can't explain.  He was the right dog and though we may not think so, this was the right time for him as well.

I love my fuzzy family.

Speaking of fuzzy family members, RTyson's new doggie needs surgery soon, to the tune of around $3,000.  She's having an art sale but donations are always appreciated.  Please check out the art for sale here: rtyson.deviantart.com/journal/… and if you want to donate, the paypal address is aggieslegs@live.co.uk
Every little bit helps, so don't hesitate if you have even $5 to spare.

Have you hugged your pets today?  :hug:

Oh, congratulations on your new fuzzy family member!! :D I love your blog but I will admit, reading the last paragraphs of most of the submissions is very hard on me... I cry and cry and cry when there is not a happy ending. I myself volunteer with a local group called WARF; Saturday I helped with kitten / cat adoptions at our local PetCo, and today I helped trap some wild cats so they can be fixed so they won't make more wild cats ^__~ I always think of you and your hubby and all the great work you're doing and it inspires me to keep on volunteering for our fuzzy friends. For my next project I'm going to see what I can do to help those who are fighting to save our wild horses. Thank you again for setting such a great volunteering example for us all!

Oh, btw, I wish I could help out on the donation, becuase I love making donations to animal causes, but I am currently overdrafted a few hundred, so until I get that straighted out, I honetsly can't help out this time. :(

I hope everything works out for the best though...

That's wonderful! I'm so glad to hear it. Btw, I don't hug my cats, I generally love and kiss 'em to death. Lol. They're used to it by now though. :D

What you need, is a great big old farm, so you can have a big fuzzy family and not worry at all about space.

...I want a farm too...

I hug and harass my doggies everyday. Although the puggie was just diagnosed with malignant melanoma we have decided no chemo or radiation because it could cause her to have burns on her face and eyes. but she is doing really well and shows no sign of slowing down yet :)

Congrats on the new family member. As for the surgery thing, I know how that goes, I'm trying to help a friend of mine raise money to pay for her 19wk old kitten's surgery. She's had the surgery but now there's the 2k bill to pay. [link] I'll if we can afford to give $5 at least to help your friend, every little bit helps.

Congrats on the new addition! :heart: I can't imagine working in a place like that. It would just be too heartbreaking. I'm glad you could save Buster. Our 13 year old Ness is a rescue and she has been the best dog.

I think this is really awesome of you to do. I have seven cats of my own, all taken from people who didn't want them and a few even from abusive homes. I don't understand how anyone could hurt a child or a pet; they're just so helpless and loving.

Hey,

Call the Denton Humane Society. They may have someone who can foster the Mom and her pups. My heart goes out to these precious lives. Here's the link with a number for emergency referals:

I'm sending this to a friend who lives in Plano, TX, and posting to my Facebook and Twitter. I don't think one of my dogs would be safe with the puppies or I would offer to foster them. Naomi is such a sweetheart. ;__;

I think it was a lady who works in collaboration with a rescue, so I believe that once the puppies are old enough, they'll be adopted out by the group.

I wish I could. It kills me that so many people are irresponsible with their pets, that they don't bother to get them fixed. I know some people want to breed them, and that's fine to a certain extent. But often times poor handling result in tons of unwanted pets and not nearly enough room for them all.

Every pet I've ever gotten I had spayed/neutered immediately (or until they're of the proper age). As much as I'd love to have kittens by my cats, I know I'd be better off going to the shelter.

So I hope you find people for those beloved animals.

yeah i always watch these animal resque shows on animal planet and i just cannot understand how people can be like that..i just...don't...people are the ones that should be caged most of the time, not "animals"

it is a good thing what you are doing for the dogs and if you manage to help even just one dog you have already been doing a good job :)

I think the UK might be too far for you and Tim to bring them, I hope you find someone to foster the babies soon, they're gorgeous.

We finally managed to adopt the mastiff x, Aggie, she's not anywhere near as boisterous when in a home environment as she was is the sanctuary, but she does have a hip problem that might work out expensive in the long run, so we'll open an 'Aggie Account' to prepare for when the big vet bills start coming in. :D

she's definatly a face scrunchy dog :D ..... she sends lots of licks.

I'm going to be offering some of my drawings up for sale as we need money for her sooner than we thought. Our vet has had Aggie's x-rays checked out by an orthopeadic specialist and she has a luxating patella that is causing arthritic changes to the bones in her leg so she needs surgery now. We are talking in the region of £2000 (approx $3000) I've opened up a special paypal account for her at aggieslegs@live.co.uk so I now need to make a journal now with a list of the pieces I am able to sell. I'll let you know when the journal is up and running and if you could link to it, that'd be fantastic.

Thanks Sophie, you're a star!! :hug:

Awwwwoh! They're so sweet. It's really sad ppl can not be more responsible. :( I live in GA, so I can't really help. If I had the money, I would make a donation too, because I do it when I can for a few of the local shelters here.

wish i had the time for a dog had a god in my up until i moved out. realy miss having one around but just do not have the time to share with one right now as I know it would end up in a bad way for the both of us. I think that is most people screw up in having a dog they do not spend enough time with them so the dog never learns what it needs to and becomes a problem then gets dumped in a shelter

Shelley's story, like so many others, just breaks my heart. I'm sure that your love, and the time you and Engel spent with her, was an amazing gift, but she deserved so much more, you know? My boyfriend and I volunteer about twice a month to drive legs of dog transports, and I'm always so happy to know that we're helping keep these pups alive. Like =skiesofchaos said, though, it feels like we're fighting an overwhelming tide of indifference. ;___;

Its unfortunate that, on the other hand, many people get turned down for adopting animals due to unrealistic expectations from the rescue organizations or shelters! I have found it very ironic as an experienced pet owner with veterinary references to be turned down because: I was not home 24/7, did not own my home, did not have a fenced yard, or other silly requirements. These were not special needs animals either. When that happens and people want a pet, they will fork out big money to a pet store or a breeder like I ended up doing back then. I would rather have given a homeless animal the benefit of my loving heart.

Yeah, rescue groups are very picky. Animal shelters, not so much. I'm not sure about the Humane Society, but at the city-run animal shelter, as long as you have an ID and $70, you can adopt an animal.
